Spyware on my PC ?

screens have been popping up (and yellow icon in the lower right hand tray) trying to get me to buy things to fix problems and takes me automatically to sites like http://isafetypage.com and www.virusburst.com and www.securityfortest.com and wants me to buy VirusBurst and Malware and Adprotect and SpyHeal, and pestrap and Antivirus Golden, etc. I run Windows XP Pro and AVG free edition and Windows Defender. Any advice on what I should do ? I need to stop these sites from automatically popping up..... I don't want to buy anything to clean this computer unless I have to. Any free stuff I can download to help ?

Start your comptuer in safe mode (press F8 repediately while the computer is starting up)

Run AVG Anti-Virus

Run Spybot Search and Destroy ( http://www.safer-networking.org/en/downl... )

Run Ad-Aware ( http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaw... )

Run Ccleaner ( http://www.ccleaner.com/ )

Click Control + Alt + Delete and go the process tab.

Write down all of the processes. Search for them in Google and see if any are viruses or spy/adware. If so, download KillBox ( http://www.killbox.net/ ) and end those programs. Then, do virus scans again, including Avast! Anti-Virus ( http://www.avast.com/ )

Hopefully this works. If it doesn't, go to a spyware forum and get further help on your computer. You may be more infected than you think. After you are finished, make sure to get a firewall, Firefox, and some other things to protect your computer.
