Suggested rewards for yahoo points.?

Does anyone agree with me if yahoo could contribute some rewards such as free download of certain software maybe a very good antivirus etc. He he he this is just a suggestion. Whether people are in it for the sake to answering question or not it does not matter but at least there is some useful contribution to those who spend the most time on the computer like getting their computer protected in return for their usage.

i agree with you..

Computer keeps turning off?

My computer was working fine til a couple of days ago then I noticed the antivirus had expired so I installed an avast 30 free trial to tie me over til I can order a new one. I shut the computer off and restarted it, then once I'd logged in a message popped up briefly saying 'starting program...' but I didn't get to see any more as the computer restarted itself. Once I'd logged in again it brought up what I assume to be the same message (starting program) but it shut down even quicker this time. I started it again, just in case I'd missed something, but it shut down even quicker this time.

I then started it up in safe mode, but not knowing much about computers I wasn't sure what to do when I got there! I uninstalled the program and tried to uninstall the expired antivirus but it wouldn't allow me to. Tried rebooting in normal mode but the same thing happened - it just takes itself round and round in circles.

Any ideas how to fix it?

Ta:)

What programs do you recommend instead of Norton?

I have just removed Norton Antivirus, personal firewall, Privacy Control, Antispam, and Parental Control after my registration expired. I have downloaded Avast AntiVirus, but would like to know of other decent free programs to replace the rest of my Norton product. Is Windows Security Firewall etc enough or good enough?

Avast is very good!

Please don't download and run any other Anti-Virus package, since that could result in conflicts.

However, I would reccommend that you download and use Advanced WindowsCare v2 Personal 2.10.32158.

This free license home users Package does a lot of Clean Up Jobs that Avast doesn't do and is something that will complement it rather than get into a conflict with Avast.

You can download your free copy from http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4991.h...

I'm sorry, but there isn't any UK Mirror where you can download it from there, but, if you don't like the US Mirrors, you can use the Aussie ones there.

All the best.

Cheers.

PS,

The Yanks aren't all that bad, luv.

computer assoicates,internet security suite
McAfee
I use AVG and Zone Alarm, both free and both seemingly effective. I gave up on Norton after downloading a new subscription which stopped my computer working. They never questioned why I wanted a refund so they must know of problems.
I run Bullguard and you can get a free trial of this from them Its a good system and I can recomend it .Good luck
actually although i swear by PANDA , windows firewall in sp2 is not a bad product as i had to use it on my other desktop for a month until i bought an additional license for panda but now i believe that pandas 2007 product comes with 3 licenses instead of 1 now. it's not free but it's worth it if you value your pc. :-)
grisoft, free edition.

Go to www.cybertechhelp.com.

My computer was also affected by this virus, and no removal tool worked, and I couldn't download any .exe file because of the virus. I couldn't download anti-virus programs etc. (Computer was restarting when I tried to download .exe files) But the staff at cybertech is great. They offer you wonderful assistance.

My computer is better than before!

  • Dont use hotbar!its dangerous!?

yesterday, i download the trial version of Stopzilla (and antivirus prgram) and it found a trojan horse on my computer and something called hotbar. i never downloaded hotbar. Stopzilla said that hotbar had spyware in it. it also has a keylogger in it. so dont get it and if u have it, get rid of it! and then change all your passwords to everything that u type a password for on your computer. also, if u find anything called ptsnoop on your computer, get rid of it. stopzilla said that its a virus and the name of it sounds like its also a form of spyware.i kno this isnt a queshtion. im just putting it up to help people. unfortunatley i suffered from this and hotbar is on my computer. i cant get rid of it and my antivirus isnt picking it up. does anybody kno a free anti spyware program that will get rid of it? and i dont want adaware. thnx very much.

p.s. i dont mind if its only a trial version. i just need somthing to get rid of hotbar really soon

    Dont use hotbar!its dangerous!?house call

Run super antispyware in safe mode, the link is http://www.superantispyware.com

You should always run both spyware and anti-virus programs in safe mode, it keeps things from hiding in a running application

Stopzilla is GARBAGE often gives false positives.

    Avg virusscan reliable?

i have a 2 months norton antivirus subscription and it is ending very soon. meanwhile my fren told me that avg is free and reliable as well. i was juz thinking if avg is free it wont be that good n i am confused right now on wat to do for antivirus. shall i extend my norton or download avg for free or buy sumting else. my com is hptx1000 and has vista.

actually AVG and AVAST! are really good virus-scanners. The catch is that the free version has some of its capabilities limited to only paying users. You can however, continue to use the non-paying functions as long as you like.

If you are just looking for a standalone anti-virus without all the extra root-kit, spyware, adware stuff, then i recommend Avast! It's worked for me ever since i last reformatted this computer and haven't got a virus since.

    Avg virusscan reliable?mcaffee

Yes it works fine, you can download the free edition from here: http://www.filehippo.com/download_avg_an...

The only thing you have to update from time to time. the free edition is good only for antivirus,

malware, spyware will not be detected, you have to use another program such as spyware doctor for this..
    webroot spysweeper
avg is free but is just a simple software designed for home use. it also has a 30 day trial version and needs to be updated constantly, for hassle free life just renew your norton and look up for symantec on the web see their trial version offers
ANG is reliable but I prfer Kapersky its not free but worth every penny. Look here for AV reviews

Best freeware system tools for windows XP ? (internet security / ram optimization / defrag / registr

After a lot of personal research, straightforward testing, and lessons learned, I came up with the following freeware solutions for keeping my system up and running.

    FIREWALL

    - COMODO Firewall Pro

    ANTIVIRUS

    - AOL Active Virus Shield (based on Kapersky)

    - a-squared free

    ANTISPYWARE

    - SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition

    - Microsoft Windows Defender

    - SpywareBlaster

    - McAfee SiteAdvisor

    REGISTRY CLEANER

    - Advanced WindowsCare V2 Personal

    - CCleaner

    ANTISPAM

    - SpamBayes

    DEFRAGMENTER

    - Speedfrag (a bit akward to use at first, but simply the best one available for free)

    MEMORY OPTIMIZER

    - Cacheman

All those software are free to everyone for personal use, they are also easy-to-use, non-intrusive (almost no pop-ups windows) and low-memory consuming.

My laptop is now booting up in 55s with 659 Mb of free RAM available (out of 1Gb total), and is decently fast.

I consider it good, but I would like to make it even better.. Any advise?

The /himem /lomem switches are helpful. But that's too geeky for alot of folks.

Best practice that I know of is a Backup Routine. On install before you go online, backup everything, registry, program sys files. Keep these backups near or in the case with the PC/Laptop. After any install or altering/editing or removal of a program, make another backup. This is called B1 and B2. Use B1 when your system gets a bad virus and use B2 to restore any data that may have changed.
